Working as a health professional for nearly twenty years I have become accustomed to being extremely cold. I keep several blazers and such in my locker so that I can handle the brutal temperature control settings while in my shift. I was astonished when I arrived at my place of work the other afternoon and the building was much warmer than usual. My first thought was that the Heating as well as Air Conditioning machine was completely broken and I wondered how long it would take to maintain it. I mentioned this to the security guard at the front desk and he indicated that it was not broken at all. He said that they had received a memo earlier stating that the temperature control settings of the building would no longer be kept at the low setting. It stated that operating rooms and ICU would still be kept that cool but the remainder of the hospital would be set to seventy three in order to save on utility bill prices. They said that they would no longer comply with previous settings because it costs the hospital a ton of money to keep the entire building at that low of a temperature. They went on to say that the savings in utility bills would allow them to make various improvements to the building and that they hoped everybody was okay with the changes. I for one was gleeful because it meant that I would no longer need to wear several layers at work. I am assigned to the geratric floor anyway and all the time my patients complain of being too nippy to begin with! You won’t hear me making any complaints about these new changes for sure.
