Working as a healthcare worker for nearly twenty years I have become accustomed to being nippy.
- I keep several overcoats plus such in my locker so that I can tolerate the temperature control settings during my shift.
I was surprised when I arrived at my place of work the other afternoon plus the building was much warmer than usual. My first thought was that the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C device was broken plus I wondered how long it would take to service it. I mentioned this to the security guard at the front desk plus she indicated that it was not broken in the least. She said that they had received a memo earlier stating that the temperature control of the building would no longer be kept at the sixty four degree setting. It stated that operating rooms plus ICU would still be kept that cool but the rest of the hospital would be set to seventy two in order to save on utility bill costs. They said that they would no longer comply with previous settings because it costs the hospital too much currency to keep the entire building at such a low temperature. They went on to say that the savings in utility bills would allow them to make much needed upgrades to the building plus that they hoped everyone was on board with the new changes. I was glad because it meant that I would no longer need to wear additional layers at work… I am assigned to the geratric floor anyway plus often my patients whine about being too chilly to begin with, you won’t hear me whining any time soon for sure.
