I did not know about this…but the SEER rating of a central heating and air conditioning system is what tells you if your central heating and cooling system will be using a lot of energy or not.
I just learned about this unfortunately after a few years of dealing with pretty high electric bills.
I am renting a home, so naturally, I figured the central heating and air conditioning system was good, and that the landlord had all under control. Boy oh boy was I wrong! When i found out about this lousy SEER rating of the central heating and air conditioning system, I actually called up my landlord. My landlord was not aware of SEER ratings either. This was a new concept to the both of us! So, my landlord actually began shopping for a brand new, up to date and possibly very expensive central heating and air conditioning system that had a really and truly great SEER rating! My landlord said that the minute he found one that had a great SEER rating, that he would have the HVAC installation rushed! That way, I could stop having to pay these really super high electric bills that I have been stuck paying. My landlord actually felt so bad about this, that he also gave me a free month’s rent to make up for the bad SEER rating air conditioning and heating system. I thought that was a totally nice thing of my landlord to do, as by law, he did not have to do something like that at all.
