Living in an area where it can be rather warm and humid one day and the next much cooler this seemed to be a way to solve home temperature problems and save money
I have never been one to turn down an opportunity to have some extra cash on hand. I don’t know too many people who would say no to that. Working some over time when it’s offered or cutting coupons has become part of the day to day. Just like most, I also hate the idea of wasting money and energy in the house when I’m not actually there. I always try to unplug things when they aren’t in use or turn the lights off when leaving a room. I recently saw an add for a smart thermostat and it got me thinking. Who wouldn’t want to be able to change the temperature of their house when they aren’t home? We already had tried a programmable one, but life doesn’t always run on the same schedule. We would get home early and the air conditioner hadn’t kicked in yet or worked late and the furnace had been heating an empty house longer than we would have liked. The idea of being able to turn up the furnace before I leave work was intriguing, not to mention more energy efficient. Living in an area where it can be rather warm and humid one day and the next much cooler this seemed to be a way to solve home temperature problems and save money. If you don’t have to run the furnace or air conditioner when it isn’t necessary it also saves on the HVAC service calls and could extend the life of the units. After some research and a trip to the heating and cooling section of my local hardware store I was sold on the idea, literally!
